[television] orphan black | "I didn't mean to fall into this mess..."

Jun 15, 2014 22:23

Um, excuse me you lot. CAN WE PLEASE TALK ABOUT ORPHAN BLACK?! I don't even really have anything intelligent or particularly meta to offer. JUST FLAIL. Mostly for Tatiana. But also for Alison and Donnie. And Helena. And Rachael.

I think this episode might be my favourite so far... )

character: ob: alison, meme: one hundred things, meme: one hundred music things, television: orphan black, character: ob: rachael, character: ob: donnie, character: ob: felix, music: washington, character: ob: helena

"THERE'S ELEVEN, ESSE."

BEST LINE EVERRRRRR.

Have a shitty day! Oh, man, I cannot believe that Donnie just became my favorite character. I was getting tired of Alison at the beginning of the season, but these two have breathed new life into my appreciation of the show. Amazing.

. I made the mistake of venturing to tumblr to look for pretty pictures and it would appear that whole swathes of fandom seem to have UTTERLY MISSED THE POINT of her story. Urgh. Fandom. WHY?

What do you mean? How are they characterizing her? And Tumblr doesn't know anything, anyway. It's all regurgitation and little original thought.

BEST LINE EVERRRRRR. AGREED!! It was all in the delivery! Haha!!

Oh, man, I cannot believe that Donnie just became my favorite character. Yep, I am right there with you. And also a giant hell yes for the fact that they've breathed new life into the show. Their black comedy balances out the heaviness of everything else PERFECTLY. With cameos from Vic of course!

Re. Rachael on tumblr. I dunno... it's just all the "she's a rapist and a child stealer and needs to DIEEE" comments that I read immediately post episode. Both of which, technically, are obviously true. But, I dunno... I feel like it possible to acknowledge those horrendous flaws (and all her other ones!) and still have an appreciation of the SHIT-STORM that is/has been her life. I mean, just her comment to Kira about "you might grow to like it here. I did..." speaks volumes. And while it doesn't EXCUSE what she's done, it certainly makes her far more three dimensional than tumblr is allowing for.

And Tumblr doesn't know anything, anyway. You're totally right. I remember the ( ... )

I agree that Rachel has sooooo much going on in that psyche, you can't help but be fascinated by her. I find her way more interesting than Sarah or Cosima. Oh, hell, who am I kidding, EVERYBODY is more interesting than Cosima.

Now that Helena is impregnated and has all of these 'bebbies' floating around in cups, I would love to see next year's storyline center around Rachel trying to bring Helena in - I bet she'd be a better sestra to her than Sarah. They can be crazy together.

Oh, hell, who am I kidding, EVERYBODY is more interesting than Cosima. Yeah, actually. I really agree with you here. I think her character suffered from the Exposition Fairy Curse for a good while there (ie. all of season one and most of season two!).

I am definitely here for Rachael and Helena interaction. For the longest time, Sarah and Alison were my faves by a LONG way, but Rachael, Helena and Alison (and Donnie) are definitely where it's at for me at the moment. I'm actually really surprised by my investment in Rachael (and degree of empathy for her - there were scenes in the most recent episode that I found all kinds of heart-breaking) and I want to know ALL THE THINGS about her/everything that's going to happen next.

(I really need some Rachael and Helena icons!)

Donnie/Alison have become the best couple ever in a few short episodes they really have. All the stuff with Leekie's body though *shakes head* Those two make Jesse Pinkman look like a person who is efficient at dealing with dead bodies. And I'm soooo here for BAMF!Donnie. And lol at Vic's "I hate this garage".

I didn't start screaming "It's RACHEL!!" till Felix got the call from Sarah *chills* Rachel may be a bigger whackjob that Helena. A least Helena is delightfully crazy. Loved how she dealt with Gracie's father.

I can't handle next week being that LAST EPISODE FOR A YEAR!! Nooooo!

Donnie/Alison have become the best couple ever in a few short episodes they really have. HAVEN'T THEY?!!!! Hahaha!! I am loving them more than anything else on my screen right now! Across all shows.

Those two make Jesse Pinkman look like a person who is efficient at dealing with dead bodies. I disagree completely!! I think they did a fabulous job! And for all Vic's attempted snooping and Angela's surveillence, no-one has a clue! There was certainly no bathtub falling through the ceiling, that's for sure!

Rachel may be a bigger whackjob that Helena. Agreed. But I find her psychology FASCINATING in a way that I don't Helena's. I find Helena more entertaining than anything!

I can't handle next week being that LAST EPISODE FOR A YEAR!! Nooooo! OMG THIS. Not ready AT ALL.

All the flailing. This show is amazing and Tatiana continually blows my mind. I honest to god forget there is ONE person playing ELEVEN different characters on this show. Danielle is the only clone we have not seen, and I really hope that we get a flashback or some video footage, because I want to see how different she would be from all the others. JUST AMAZING.

Also, can we have Helena hosting her own show for children? She's just so funny with them!

I KNOW!! I forget, too! The one mis-step I think was with Tony, who I liked the idea of, but I think the execution could have been better. Physically and mannerisms-wise, I found him extremely Sarah-esque. There were other things too (perfectly groomed eye-brows for example), and I'm wondering whether we'll see him again. If it were any other show, I'd write him off as a half-assed, token attempt at being inclusive (and assume we'll never see him again), but I'm totally willing to give this show the benefit of the doubt because... well, for the majority of the time, they ARE absolutely inclusive. Deliberately so. So yeah, benefit of the doubt.

I AGREE WITH ALL OF YOUR OB FLAIL!!!

When did I start liking Donnie? How did this happen? I, too, would like to watch Alison & Donnie: Accidental Murder Club forever, thx. There's eleven, esse. And also Vic, because I was pretty sure I was stick of his stupid face, and then they smacked it into a table and covered it with glitter and that was enjoyable, and now, I hate this garage and what is my life with these characters?

I am also very fond of Helena's habit of oinking at people she dislikes. I approve of it very much, as I approve of her protective instincts for Gracie. Everything about the Prolethian storyline is disturbing, and I love it. (And did Helena run away with a nitrogen tank full of her eggs/embryos?! Because holy shit.)

This episode was made of yes and I want MORE.

This show. <3 And this lady! <3 <3 <3 There are just not enough accolades in the world for Tatiana. I didn't catch the voice but you could tell the minute she walked into that hallway that something was off/different about Sarah. I mean the fact that she didn't immediately confront that Kertland guy was one thing, but it just felt odd. And yet, I still didn't get it was Rachel until Felix's phone rang. And then I noticed that the hair was wrong! It was too curly/a wig and I love that they went to the detail to give her a wig (and not just let Tatiana wear her hair like she does as Sarah.)

The beginning of this season lagged a little for me and felt all over the place but it's really come together at the end. I love how they humanize even the most random extra people. Who thought we'd cheer for Donnie? Or be glad to see Vic back?

Helena though...she's my fave. I loved her poetic justice. <3

Can't believe there's only one more episode. Sigh.

There are just not enough accolades in the world for Tatiana. Yep, this. I was reading Emmy news the other day (mostly for Breaking Bad odds), but there were some people suggesting an outside chance for a nomination for her. THAT WOULD BE INCREDIBLE!!!!!! And so deserved. And, like, merited. To be honest, I can't believe she's not a shoe-in. But, that's the industry for you, I guess.

The beginning of this season lagged a little for me and felt all over the place but it's really come together at the end. I've really enjoyed the whole season, but I absolutely agree that the back half has been SUBLIME.

One more episode :((((

Oh I hope so. Intellectually i understand why she might not because the TV field is so vast, and the social buzz doesn't always translate to votes from old Hollywood Emmy nominators. But it's a damn shame because she's doing the work of SEVERAL amazing actresses.
