I definitely think there'll be more in the future, both of these characters and of Alex with others (Meredith in particular... I have an Alex + Mer fic plot already in progress).

Yep, vicious is right! It was a pretty full-on way to kill off a character, that's for sure. I have a thing for Mark and Alex's emotional damage and the parallels in their personalities. Most intriguing!
