Nadia hadn't realized until partway through the fireworks that Walter was no longer at the party.

Shit. She was not going to let him leave without her at least saying good-bye.

As such, she may have set a personal best record in running across the island to the causeway. She only hoped that the leap of logic saying that that's where he'd be leaving was right.

She probably was not looking quite at her best when she got there, out of breath and her hair falling out of its ponytail. She skidded to a stop beside him and bent over to catch her breath.
