Walter jerked out of a restless sleep and slammed his hand down on the alarm clock half a minute before it was going to start his day with an irritating blare. He was beginning to see why digital clocks might well be the downfall of all civilization.

Dropping off in his room before lunch, Walter picked up the package and snickered when he unwrapped it. People must be desperate for real cooking around here.
