What You Don't Know About Me Could Fill a Book. Theme 15; Prompt 2
The three of us met only once face-to-face, around the time Azazel marked as his own the child who would one day be Sam Winchester. Other than that one time, we have been careful not to be seen together. If I'm too friendly with Lilith now, people won't buy it when I pretend to betray her to the Winchesters later.
It was Azazel who chose to bring me in on the plan. An honor beyond belief. Any demon would have swum a lake of holy water to play my role in the coming Apocalypse (that is, if they had known that my role even existed), but Azazel chose me. He chose me over Tammi. He chose me over his own daughter.
He introduced me to Lilith proudly.
Lilith looked me in the eye, an unholy Savior regarding her prospective Judas. "Can we trust her?" she asked.
Azazel smiled his knowing smile. "She'll be going deep cover," he said, "If you never have cause to doubt her, then she's not doing her job." When Lilith failed to look impressed, he added, "I'll take competency over loyalty any day. You might have followers who would be easier to trust, but I'm telling you that Ruby will get the job done."
I spoke up then, the praise making me bold. "You don't have to trust me," I said, "Just trust that I'm playing your game now, and I always play to win."
And just like that, I was in. There are no three demons more privileged than we in knowledge of what is to come. Azazel is the king, Lilith is the queen, I am their knight, and everyone else on both sides, absolutely everyone - every demon, every angel, the Winchesters, everyone - are our pawns. We are playing a long, frustrating, beautiful game.
I can't wait for Lucifer to turn the chessboard over and set it on fire.
