will we give ourselves a fright when we become less than human?

okay, i saw "aurora" and "the lost boys" a couple of weeks ago, and then the hurricane happened (and fallout is still happening, btw: cousin m. got her power turned on just thursday, eleven days after it went out; a third of the county is still without power, and they're still citing november 22nd as the target date for 100% electrification), so i ( Read more... )

I understood maybe 2.3 words of that post. Approximately. Mostly, I'm surprised at your ability to go beyond John Sheppard, because five episodes deep, the world continues to consist solely of RODNEY MCKAY. And maybe, just maybe a stray nod to Beckett, especially when he speaks, but mostly, it's been episode, what?

Also, I read the post of isilya's that you linked about giftedness, and commented about McKay and the wasting of his potential via making a veritable joke of science on the show.

Also, Advantage was beyond adorable. I may have made high-pitched sounds that only fannish love can elicit.

for the love of god, will you just get down here so i can brainwash you already?

ahahaha, yes: stargate: atlantis, the show that takes the "science" out of "science fiction." the giftedness-on-television thing is indeed an intriguing little phenomenon.

if you mean the story advantage by resonant, i would say . . . okay, "adorable" is an interesting global reaction to it. they certainly are that. and i love that story with all my heart, i do. if you haven't read the author's notes for it, make sure you do—she knows rodney.

* frankly, i am a scary john apologist in a way i find incredibly embarrassing, i.e. JOHN CAN DO NO WRONG. i am that girl. *facepalm*

Oh, right there with you. I'm shamelessly blinded by the pretty. And the thigh holster. Really valid points about him, though.

+ i adore major lorne. he's so competent and good-natured and resigned. he and caldwell should totally get drunk together and wax nostalgic about smooth-running bases and people who follow orders. he has weir's mothering/pining thing pegged.

Totally. He's, in so many ways, what Sheppard isn't. He's military through and through but he's still human and, uh, hot.

thank god you understand. i just feel like i have NO RATIONAL DECISION-MAKING SKILLS when it comes to him. and he's so amazingly pretty, i can't stand it.

yes! okay, i never thought about that, but obviously that's exactly what he is. i wonder how many people wish he were in charge instead—if the people in atlantis have a different opinion than the brass back home at the SGC; if lorne himself thinks he (or caldwell) could be doing a better job. we haven't seen much lorne-sheppard interaction, i hope we do in the future.

Oh, so do I! I'd love to see an episode where Lorne has struggles with Sheppard's methods but comes to see that this is an unorthodox situation and decisions aren't as cut and dry as they are on earth where the enemy and resources are more predictable.

ooh, that has to be the next logical step. the most we've gotten from lorne so far (and mostly from the last episode) is this resigned and slightly disapproving vibe of "sheppard and his team tend to wander off, miss check-ins, ignore protocol, and often need rescuing by me and my team." i hope the writers let that come to a head, where either lorne confronts sheppard about it, or we see him change his opinion on his own through further observation or based on things other people tell him. last season the tension about sheppard's command style came from under him (specifically from bates), because there was no one above him to put the pressure on; and this season is just the reverse, all the pressure from caldwell and the SGC. so it really will be interesting to see what role lorne plays in the future.
