[ACTION - A (Outside Mayfield Dairy, OPEN TO ALL)]

[On his first day in Mayfield, Caesar had asked Balin if he had any explosives or powers strong enough to destroy an armored building, referring to the attack made on the Dairy back in March. So today, while Mayfield is temporarily without a police chief, Balin is outside the Mayfield Dairy.]

[His church nickname is "Crown" and also Solomon the Wise King :(]

Dead Apostle Ancestor. Most humans would phrase that as vampire.

[Well, that explains a lot! Balin files that away for later. He's got more names to write down, first.]

[Outwardly, he doesn't seem to really change his expression much-although there's something subtle in his body language that would be akin to someone finding out what they thought was a garden snake next to them is really a deadly poisonous variety instead.]

Astartes, youkai, livin' nations, hero-kings ... an' vampires. This town takes all kinds, don't it?

[Oddly enough, he just wrote down France's name.]

Why'a name "Dead Apostle Ancestor?" Don't tell me it's somethin' crazy like you bein' Saint Peter's granddad.

[He stalks around Balin while speaking.]

Think of it like a rank in power. There is The Dead, ghouls after that, vampires after that, Dead Apostles after that, and finally, Dead Apostle Ancestors. There are only a few of those left in the world.

[He shakes his head slightly.]

Weird rankin' system, but I get it. You're'a one of'a most powerful where you're from.

What's your name, then?

Among Dead Apostle Ancestors, I would rank myself around 4th most powerful. But there are many creatures who surpass me.

You can call me Merem Solomon.

Many creatures who surpass you, huh? Like Mister "I-got-no-weaknesses-an'-I-got-a-weapon-that-splits-continents" Gilgamesh?

[And a red flag goes up in Balin's mind the minute he hears Merem's name; his eyes widen slightly in recognition. Garviel had mentioned Merem's name as a person to avoid ... and now, he's appreciating why.]

I was speaking more alone the lines of Arcueid Brunestud, who is undefeatable.

Oh. An' she's another vampire?

[The implication seemed obvious, but Balin would rather not assume in this case. Meanwhile, he glances around the trophies. Nope ... no mention of Arcueid. Or Merem, for that matter. Looks like he's telling the truth there.]

Did Mayfield drag her here, too?

Not really a vampire. True Ancestor is a better word. She's an ally of humanity, yes.

[Huh. Balin's not sure what to make of this kid.]

... What'sa difference between her an'a vampire?

An' if she's an "ally of humanity," what about you? You just like talkin' philosophy an' morals with humans or somethin'?

You'll have to find out for yourself.

I'm an enemy of humans. As a matter of fact, humans betrayed and killed me while I was still human. Of course I wish to see them dead.

But yes, I do enjoy talking.

walking_nuke August 8 2011, 23:07:10 UTC
Oh. Guess that's why Garviel warned me about you.

[Although Balin's expression sours slightly, he's not planning on fighting Merem if he can help it. He'll only act in self-defense, especially when he knows so little about this kid. Instead ...]

So that's it? You hate everyone who's human 'cause some humans killed you?

[A beat. He probably can't relate it to any modern experience if Merem is thousands of years old ...]

Why'd they do it?

I would say 'to save themselves' but it goes a lot further than that. To put it simply, I had a special ability and because of that, people thought I was a god. So they cut off my arms and legs so I couldn't escape and forced me to use my ability at their whim. When given the option to use my ability or die, they used me until I died of exhaustion. It's that simple.

[... Wow. No wonder Merem hates humans now ... even if that blanket hatred doesn't sit well with him, it does explain a lot.]

... That's a pretty shitty way'a treat someone they were reverin' as a god.

Especially because I wasn't a god nor did I wish to be one.

Yeah. Absolutely fuckin' barbaric, what'ey did.

[Though it does beg the question as to how Merem became a vampire in the first place.]

... Does it matter to you any if'eres humans that can sympathize with what you had'a go through?
