"You think your color matters to them?" Dorie responded. "The Orisha and the Loa look for people who will listen to what they wish to teach. It's not a matter of race, color, or creed. If he called you, then you better answer. He has something you need and you have something you can give him."

Exactly that :)
Welcome home.

He's been with me about a year now. Sometimes we still butt heads but most of the time he's willing to work with me. There are others, not as insistent, but they WILL have their piece said and they will exact of me what they came for.

I'm so white I glow and Ifa found it's way to me as well. Human life started in Africa so this is a way back to the roots. I need to take you guys to the Ifa retreat so you can walk the Shrines to the Orishas

As I understand it, this is not Ifa though it likely shares similar roots. The practices I was able to incorporate come from New Orleans voodoo which in turn has its roots in Haitian practices which then come from a specific area of Africa. I'm still doing studies, but I do want to see the shrines some time. Maybe after the holidays when everything settles.

Ifa is the parent religion of both Santeria and Voudun which became voodoo along with all the related religions. They all came from Ifa.. It's native to the Yoruba (think I may have spelled that wrong) tribes of Nigeria. It's got a really interesting history.

I really enjoyed seeing pictures of your shrine!

Well...I made a choice once. When Legba and the other loa showed up. I had to ask a dear friend what to do. I made a nice offering and said, thank you, I really appreciate your attention, but would you mind going away and leaving me alone? Thankfully they did bc I found it rather scary.

Dorie and I tried that route, but he was most insistent. To be sure, it hasn't really hurt anything and it's enhanced my understanding of practices I once thought incomprehensible or scary. Of course, he's not for everyone and neither are his fellow loa.

...and the lessons are painful if you happen to forget.

Thank you! I don't think much of my own crafting work and when Dorie took the pics, I noticed that it looks a lot like other professional sites. I enjoyed sharing the photos and the experience. Thanks for stopping by to read and comment, it's appreciated.

You're very welcome. I try, knowing I have blind readers, to give those detailed descriptions under the pictures and in the alt tags but sometimes I forget *blush*. Thanks for taking the time to read and comment.
