What a lovely description of a solstice rite - and that song is one of the few that makes me 'blaze like a bonfire' so I have been told. :) Long one of my favorites.
The song is one of my favorites too. I'm an earth, but for some reason have an intimate association with fire and Brighid is one of my first and most favorite patrons.
The high priest in question is rather young for his duties and did not enjoy being 'dead'. He said it felt strange. I can believe it, since we did ritually hunt and kill him at Yule.
I, too, am an earth with a strong secondary connection to water (which is good, since my patron is Asherah). My connection to fire has never been strong, however. I've just always had trouble working with it or being able to control the energy. It's only in the last few months, honestly, that I've gotten anywhere. My entry this month is actually about the person who has helped me learn how to connect to fire, as I have helped him connect to earth (he's always had the same difficulty with earth as I've had with fire, so it works out quite well).
It's a star crossed relationship. I'm drawn to it but afraid of it. Given fire, I get burnt. When I was a dedicant, they forbade me to be anywhere near the candles or the fire because I kept setting the sleeves of my robe or the tail of my hair on fire. I can't start one to save my life...but the best people IN my life are fire and always have been.
I don't meet many other pagans, living as I do in a place that styles itself the jewel in the belt buckle of the Bible Belt. Nice to meet you!
