A Man Who's Gone to Hell with Heaven's Blessing

o/` " The judge said I'm not fit to live with men
They're building me a gallows in the courtyard
To make sure I don't pass this way again

My first taste of killin' was at Vicksburg
I must have shot me a hundred men
I learned to make my livin' with a six-gun
I'm an outlaw now but I was a hero then" o/`

So pretty and even flatter than here!

I should bring a camera to school so you can see the snow covered land out here, it's still got a bit of a wave to it because of glaciers...and you should see the lovely light and sound show they have at our old jail, they really brought it to life!

Boy, lovely town, love to live there, but I'd never survive, not with my job skills.

Heh, you consider that looking bad? Its better than me on most days, but then work, both works, have been busy, five 2A to 7P days and 300+ miles of driving a day takes a lot out of a person.

Hmmm, almost surprised that the hardware store isn't flying an Ace or Tru Value sign, I know Ace is doing very well, and putting a hurting on Home Depot, though considering my experience this last time, that's easy to believe.

The hardware store is an independent, still owned by the same family who started it. It's also more like a general store or mercantile than a true hardware store.

There is, as you can tell by the photos of the buffalo, a modern Hays so I'm certain they use computer techs and other modern types. I just tend to avoid the modern parts of the towns when I'm traveling. No sense of history there.

Actually Ace is independent, one of my customers is Walt's Ace Hardware. Ace isn't so much a chain as a cooperative, and is currently on a square foot basis stopping on Home Depot. As Ace likes to say, Ace the helpful hardware place, customer service is something HD is severely lacking these days. That's the neat thing, joining Ace lets you get a store brand at a good price, training on the latest technology, and yet, its still your store, aside from the core hardware items and services Ace requires, your store can feature whatever you feel your customers want. I think its actually a really neat system, the support of a chain provided to a local store, the best of both worlds.

Actually for me, it'd still be hard, I make my living driving, I've an uncanny talent both for navigation and remembering locations after one visit. Somehow I don't think a small town'd have much work for me, much as I like small towns.

Awesome pics! I really feel like I was there!

Those sky pictures demonstrate perfectly why I could never live anywhere els.e There's no sky like that anywhere but on the prairie. Mountains, oceans, and forests are lovely, but I am a prairie girl always and forever.

I can't disagree with that. I loved the wide open skies and the sea of endless grass. That's why I'm grateful I'm going to get the chance to go back this summer. Hopefully the wildflowers will still be in bloom that late. I've never seen them in Kansas, but when we were in Dallas in September the fields were full of Indian paintbrush, black eyed susans, and sunflowers.
