and now I'm going to talk about books

Dec 31, 2010 13:14

I read exactly 100 books this year. You can check out 93 of them here on goodreads. Seven of them are gay porn books that I didn't feel comfortable rating on goodreads where my pastor's wife has access to all of my readings. AWKWARD ( Read more... )

Her Fearful Symmetry is hideous. Just awful.

I loooooove the Hyperion series! And The Last Olympian but nit as much as the Hyperion series- particularly the rise of Endymion.

PS. 100 books!?!? Wow!

Right!? And I loved Time Traveler's Wife so much, I expected better from her.

I'm just starting the Fall of Hyperion now. I'll let you know what I think of the rest. Hyperion was SO AWESOME.

PS, yes! But, you know, I'm not planning a wedding or anything, and also I work in a book store and see books all the time... also I read kind of fast. :)

I absolutely LOOOOVE The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. My mother read it first and loved it...so I wasn't sure I was going to like it, but it's awesome.

Such an adorable book! Way too many people told me to read it, and that many people telling me to read something will generally turn me off a thing, but finally I picked it up and OMG, so good.

But what about the category romance novels? Which did you love? Hate?

Well I only read, like, four authors this year.

Julia Quinn: haven't read anything bad, though some I like better than others
Gena Showalter: haven't read the Alien Huntress series, because they're done in first person POV. I liked the ones about the Lords of the Underworld until she brought angels into it. The Atlantis ones are pretty awesome.
JR Ward: Love, but in a completely ironic sense. JR Ward is just too much, y'all.
Lisa Kleypas: Again, love most of her stuff. The series she just finished is the Hathaways, and it is full stop awesome.
Nora Roberts: So I've read almost everything of hers, and I can't read too much of it back to back because it all starts to sound the same, but I did like her Bride Quartet a lot, though not at all the second one, but you have to read the second to get to the third or it doesn't make sense, and there are good parts of the second, just not the main story.

Here's my "shame I has none" folder on goodreads: link me. I'm always good for romance novel recs. :)

Oh, and I totally read all the Hathaways, too. I loved Leo's story and Amelia's story the most, but I really liked them all. Have you read any of the contemporaries? I've only read Sugar Daddy and Blue-Eyed Devil, and they were okay, but... not great.

I read Christmas Eve at Friday Harbor, which apparently is the first volume of a new series. I wasn't blown away by it, but it was way, way too short anyway. I haven't read the other two, but that's because they're in first person. :p

What do you like in romance novels?

Hello again!

1. I also hated "Her Fearful Symmetry". I couldn't even finish it, which is something that rarely happens to me. Glad to know I made the right call on that one!

2. You've inspired me to keep better track of what I've read this year. Do you have a particular system in place? A notebook? Something on the computer? I'm intrigued!

3. Do you remember selling me that red beast of a book that is the "collector's edition" of the Lord of the Rings YEARS ago? I'm reading it right now! I didn't get around to it during November/December this year, so I'm working on it now. As impressive as it is to have a dictionary-sized book on your bedside table, it's not that practical for reading anyplace else!

Hey friend!

1. GOD SO MUCH HATE. It was UBER disappointing because I loved her first one so very much, but this one was just massive amounts of stupid and creepy.

2. Up until I got goodreads in 2008, I kept everything in notebooks, and just numbered them as I read them and put little notes like "this is the one with the secret twin, very good" or something. Then I got a goodreads account and do everything that way. It's not quite as satisfying as keeping a handwritten notebook, for whatever reason, but it's a lot more space friendly, and probably better organized.

3. I DO REMEMBER THAT, YES. And that is precisely the reason I decided to get rid of it, because it was just too large to read, and I already had two copies I was never actually going to read. I also haven't done my yearly reread yet. I got through the first one on audio (and let me tell you, that was a TRIP) but haven't started on the second yet.

I added you on Good Reads! I don't do much on it, but I'm there! I should start at least cataloging my romance novels.
