the second (unwritten) half of this icon says "thank you so kindly for pointing it out"

I feel like I've had a rant prepared about this episode for days. Except I'm not really going to rant too much. I know I'm a day late and a dollar short for episode reactions, but this is what you get when I don't live with my TV. After Easter, thank goodness.

In the beginning, there was DEAN )

I will answer more in detail later, because I'm running out at the moment, but does it help at all to know that the publisher of the books was named "Sera"? I really think they were laughing at themselves as much as they were at us.

The Winchester Gospel, however remains the stupidest thing they have EVER done on the show, and in SPN, that's a pretty impressive distinction.

It makes that part better, sure. I'm still wildly unimpressed with them talking about slash on camera.

And yes, YES.

I have absolutely nothing good to say about the Winchester Gospel, and I've decided that Castiel annoyed me less in that Dean annoyed me less. *sigh*

I hated the slash mention for so many reasons, the hand-waving I have to do with fic now, my sociologist friend who is a casual viewer emailing me to ask about we deviant fans (*face palm*), and it made the EW article sting a bit more.

All of that aside: Sam! Sam&Dean.... so easily pleased with crumbs these days.

I was just in the car for two and a half hours and spent WAY too long thinking about this Winchester Gospel thing. Does that mean that the DVDs are a Visual Bible?

Sam&Dean.... so easily pleased with crumbs these days.

It's so true! This was not even the most awesome interaction they've had, but I was so pathetically grateful that they were on screen together I didn't even care.

*sighs*

LOL! Yes, the DVDs are like taped church services complete with readings and homilies by Kripke.

Somewhere I said that this is one of the best eps of season four but in comparison to anything in season one or two, it ranks low in the whole of things. :/ Bah. No wonder my big bang is AU and all I care to read anymore is AU.

Bible studies to follow. Unless that's the what the SPN magazine is all about.

It is one of the best so far, which isn't saying too much, you're right. It's not as bad as Bugs, at least. It's kind of hard to be that bad.

And haha, my big bang is J2 AU, and I haven't read anything in the SPN fandom in, months? Maybe?

You know how I stand with you about this. Sigh.

I do. At least it wasn't quite as bad as I imagined from episode reactions. I mean, the making fun of parts were pretty short.

Buh... wha... hah?

What gave you the impression that Dean stopped caring about Sam? If anything, I've been feeling that it's been the other way around this entire half of the season, :\.

Maybe not stopped caring? But he's been way too wrapped up in his man pain for me to take this season, and it's not even his fault, because Kripke decided to give him a stupid time line for hell. But I have felt that Dean has an "I will leave you if the angels tell me to" attitude this season, and him putting the bag down before walking out the door was the first indication that satisfied me (your mileage may vary) that isn't the case.

Ah, I feel like the one person out there who's not fed up with Dean's angst. I agree that the writers definitely dug themselves into a hole with the Hell time line and they handled a lot of Dean's issues with his time there really clunkily, but all that considered, personally, he is more than entitled to some wicked bouts of emoness. In fact, he could probably cry every episode from now until the finale and I still think it wouldn't quite be enough to capture the horror he faced down there. But.. I really think that would just be me ( ... )

Except that he got back into doing all this shit with Ruby because he wants to buy Dean a future. I mean, I hate Sam's storyline too, but he's doing what he's doing because he wants Dean to be able to stop doing this at some point. That's what he said in whatever episode that was that he called Ruby up again.

But yeah, clearly we're getting different things out of this season. I feel like most of fandom agrees with you. Or the more vocal half. I just want season two back again.

it seems that we either liked or hated this episode. i won't try to change your mind about this but this is how i see it: i thought it was hilarious and yes, they were making fun of us but it was ALL TRUE so i didn't really think it was an issue. they also made fun of themselves too (that's what i thought the "winchester gospel" for example was. i was thinking omg, how can mischa say this with such a straight face? how?). i thought it was a nice nod to slashers and that the entire episode was tongue-in-cheek. (the prophet dude is clearly kripke!).

It might have been what they thought they were doing. But seriously, they put slash into the text of the show. It makes me incredibly uncomfortable. And they've said so many other things that are almost as ridiculous as the Winchester Gospel that it's hard for me to tell if they're joking with that or not.
