Title: Bali
Pairing: Cassidy Haley/Jonny Cota
Rating: PG for a mention of making love
POV: Second person
Prompt: Design
Word Count: 588
Notes: For those who don’t know, Cassidy wrote the original draft (available on the Nostalgia album) of Daylight Breaks for his then-boyfriend, Jonny Cota. This is relevant to the story, I swear. Also, this is for the cassidyfanworks mini-bingo; the prompt is very, very loosely used and you can see my bingo card here. Lyrics in the lj cut are (c)Cassidy Haley.

You’re supposed to be in Bali finding inspiration to design this season’s line, but you’re having difficulty seeing anything other than the beautiful man lying next to you. It’s not that you love him anymore here than you do in America, but there’s something about the way he blends into this setting that really stands out. It’s almost as if he belongs here - like he was always meant to be this exotic angel. You mentioned that thought to him the night before last - he laughed softly and then you made love.

That’s something you don’t think you’ll ever tire of; the way your bodies move together is a magic all its own. You’ve never before had a partner who fit so flawlessly with you - it amazes you still that it’s possible. But then, anything is possible with Jonny, as you’ve come to realize over your time together.

He stirs next to you, the feel of his hand against your chest pulling you back to the present, and you can’t help giving him a sheepish grin as he tells you to stop thinking so much. You know he’s right - you’re at the beach to relax, for fuck’s sake, but you can’t really help that your mind, well, has a mind of its own. It’s okay, though - the moment his lips press against yours all thought floods out anyway. You think he must know that; you can’t really imagine that he hasn’t picked up on that little trick by now.

That night, you stay up writing while he sleeps. The words flow more easily than ever before, and it amazes you how little editing you feel required to do as you read it over. You’re careful to hide it away before you climb back into bed, lest he find it before it’s ready. The next few days actually consist of work, and you almost forget about the folded page of words hiding in the back of your wallet.

Almost; but not quite.

You spend the rest of the trip sneaking time to bring it together whenever you can - when he goes to town for more supplies, out on the deck when he decides to crash for an afternoon nap; times like those. You might feel guilty if it weren’t for the fact that the work was still getting done - neither of you really wants to end up facing Katie’s wrath.

The last night in Bali finally arrives and, overall, the trip’s been a success - you’ve both agreed to that - and you know exactly how you want to celebrate. You can’t help but smile at the curiously surprised look on his face when you join him on the beach with a glass of red wine in each hand and your guitar bag slung over your shoulder. He leans in for a light kiss as you settle in next to him, and you hand him one of the glasses as you pull back. When he asks what you’re planning, you just grin and tell him that he’ll find out soon enough. Soon enough turns out to be once the wine is gone and the water’s too cold to stay in any longer.

"I wrote you something," is what you finally tell him, smiling almost shyly as you dry your hands and settle the guitar into your lap. You don’t think you could ever forget the emotion in his eyes as he listened to you singing his song for the first time.

As it turns out, there truly is something inspiring about Bali.
