Author's Notes: I wrote this for my English class. We had to write something using the prompt 'Do You Believe In Love At First Sight?', and this is just kind of what happened. Not sure how I feel about the end, but, y'know, I really couldn't go much further with it, seeings as it needs to be passed in to my teacher. haha.

“Do you believe in love at first sight?”, he asks as you stretch out on the bed.

You look up at him for a moment, and then close your eyes gently. You shrug and reply, “I dunno.. I mean, I guess I believe in lust at first sight, but love takes time. Y’know?” You open your eyes a crack to look at him and question, “Why?”

The older boy shrugs and looks down at you, his gaze lingering on the sliver of skin visible between the fabric of your shirt and the band of your boxers. “Just curious,” he finally responds, looking up at your face.

The two of you are silent for a long before you ask, “Do you?”

“Not really,” he admits, “The thing you said about love taking time.. I agree. I mean, you could have feelings for someone right away - a crush if you wanna call it that - but for it to turn into love it takes experiences, and time, and all those little moments and memories.”

“Yeah,” you murmur, “That’s kinda what I meant.”

“You do believe in love, though, right?” You look up, meeting his gaze, and gasp softly, startled by the intensity in his eyes.

“Of course,” you manage to answer, quickly looking away. You can feel the heat rising in your cheeks as you determinedly keep your gaze fixed on the ceiling fan.

He lays down next to you, and, after a long pause, asks, “Do you ever mix the lines of friendship-love, and love-love?”

“I don’t think you can.”

“What do you mean by that?”

“If your friendship with somebody starts to feel... different, I don’t think it means that you’re confused or mixed up. The way you love someone can change over time - whether they’re family, friend, or lover - and if that love seems to be switching categories, then I think it means something. And maybe if it’s only a small change then it’s just a crush, and it’ll change back eventually. But if it’s more than that, then it can’t just be a mix up - there’s a reason that the love changed that much.”

He’s silent for a long moment, considering your words, and you finally work up the nerve to look at him again. The lighting in the room is dim and it puts most of his face in shadows, but his eyes are as bright as ever. When he finally speaks it’s not what you were expecting to hear.

“What would you do if I told you that the lines get crossed when I think about you?”

You’re silent for a minute before rolling over onto your side so that you can face him. “I’d ask if it’s just a small change that’s like a crush, or if it’s more than that.”

“And if I said it was more?” He glances up at you with the intent to look away after a second, but your gazes lock and suddenly his drowning in your eyes.

“Then I’d have to do this,” you say before leaning forward just enough to press your lips to his. He seems to be caught off-guard at first, but when you go to pull back he shifts slightly, putting his hand on the back of your neck and kisses you back.

After a minute or so, you pull back again and this time he lets you break the contact. He smiles at you and you blush, resting your head on his chest on sighing happily. Yeah, this is something you wouldn’t mind getting used to.
