So, back right after DH came out, I posted an entry about how I thought the whole AK-in-the-forest thing worked. And now Jo has posted an explanation on her site.
I thought it was pretty obvious that the maimed baby-like creature was Voldemort's soul. I was really surprised to hear people thought it was actually...a baby and that Dumbledore was perpetrating child abuse.
Most people agreed that it was a piece of Voldemort's soul, but there was some uncertainty as to whether it was the Harrycrux piece or the main body piece. It's nice that Jo confirmed it was the latter.
I never read anyone saying it was a real baby but that is pretty amusing. Why read the story that's in the book when you can invent all sorts of wild nonsense in a weird attempt to play "gotcha" over the heroes' morality?
Certainly the blood had to be a factor but it seemed like the wand should be as well; I wasn't 100% sure whether she had intended it to be both, so it's nice to have it confirmed.
I also like it how she says that it's not precisely scientific, but instead also hinges on the choices of the people involved. Of course, that also gives her an out if something doesn't seem quite consistent. :D
