Oh, thank God...I thought that stood for something else.

"What I don't particularly get is why people would read a comm SPECIFICALLY DESIGNED for lonely nerds to insult the living fuck out of each other, and then get really offended and bent out of shape when they see someone insulting them or someone they know."

Because you're just harmlessly blowing off steam until the same thing happens to you, then it's a mortal insult. Feh.

If I wanna bitch about sucky role-players, that's what my RL journal is for, but I guess people are just braver in packs. Of course, this is coming from someone who gets a nice daily dose of pointing and laughing from the people featured on Fandom Wank -- more than a few of whom have been from BRPS -- so maybe I shouldn't remark.

Exactly. Of course, this kind of situation is only compounded by the fact that - if the BPRS incidents I know of personally are any indicator - at least half the time, the complainer has failed to, you know, actually talk to their problem RPer about stopping said problem.

I'll confess to reading a few entries once or twice a week, or if someone specifically tells me to go, but I can't claim to understand its existence.

On the other hand, there is a certain honesty in watching BPRS (or Fandom Wank, or...), because if you do, you can't really claim to be above the petty infighting and cattiness that we are all subject to, as, um, humans. This may be why, of the lj RPers I know, I tend to prefer those who watch BPRS or simply don't care than those who are all OMG MORAL OUTRAGE. 'Cause, as a long-standing hypocrite myself, I am a little boggled by that sort of outright self-blindness.

Summary: People R wiErd.

I don't know much on Fandom Wank. Is that just a BRPS for fanfic writers or something?

What did you think BRPS stood for?

I don't know so much about 'braver in packs,' although yeah, if you've got a lot of people agreeing with what you say, you're more confident with it. The whole point of 'community' is to make friends with people who have things and ideas in common with you. That's why they're always grouped around particular interests.

I don't know. Maybe if someone starts ripping on me publicly and constantly, I'll start getting all pissy, too.

((Fandom wank is on another blog system...

They wank...about people who are wanking (which they go out into other blog spaces and find themselves and bring back for everyone to laugh over). And somehow think they're The Shit because of that.))

((Well, as someone who has joined it, watched, participated, wanked twice herself on it, been wanked about several times, and then quit the comm completely, the only explaination I can give is ( ... )

((Oh, like innocence is more than a theoretical construct anyway, on the internet. Or elsewhere.

Not that I'm advocating nihilism or anything, but good behavior is based on an ideal that good people aspire to, not a reality that they succeed in creating.))

((Yep, well aware of that. ;) And agreed. ))

I don't understand it much, either. I don't read it unless someone points out something that may be of interest to me. Otherwise, I just don't care enough about rp to bother reading the place, and the whole not naming names thing bothers me as well (I find it... cowardly). I think I joined for all of five minutes to reply to one or two comments, then dropped membership there after.

Mostly, it seems to be a place that's all about bitching about problems, but not about doing a single damn thing to solve them. Which is why you tend to see the same problems over and over and over by the same people on that comm. I understand people feeling the need to bitch about stuff, but there has to come a point where it's like "Ok, sir. You take a breath, calm down, now you either do something to solve the problem, or shut up." Sadly, the bulk of the BRPS crowd has gone past that point yet seem to do neither.

What gets me laughing is the fact that certain people post about how horrible everyone else is at RP there several times a week. I always have to resist the urge to say "you know, I noticed a similarity in all these dysfunctional relationships you have...you".

But the members only thing stops me, which is good.

I occasionally read it out of masochistic boredom, but mostly it's a hellhole I avoid.

Not only do I agree with you entirely, but the use of the terms 'douchebag' and 'jerk-ass' make me agree EVEN MORE ENTIRELY.

And you're right to realize that I know IC guff is IC guff. I'm DEADPOOL, for chrissakes, all I DO is IC guff.

And straying slightly off topic...

Since there's a Bad Roleplayers Suck comm, and a Good Roleplayers Rock comm, I was thinking of starting a new comm called "Mediocre_RPers_Are_Okay". You know, a place where you could come and be like:

"Yeah, I RPed with What's-His-Ass. He was kinda funny, but not enough to actually make me LOL."

If you actually got the energy to create a comm to celebrate apathy, the irony would make my eyes bleed.
