Gail Simone leaving WW

I wish I could say I was surprised but when "Birds of Prey" was announced as coming back, I wondered if Wonder Woman fans were on borrowed time. Today the answer came yes, Gail Simone is indeed leaving WW soon. I'm guessing it'll be after the jump to #600. The only thing I hope is that we get someone who loved and respected Diana as much as Gail ( Read more... )

I'm all for bringing back Phil Jimenez, though I know it won't happen because there was too much stupid controversy with his WW. He truly loved the comic and I like what he did for it/with it. Sometimes his pacing was a little off, but he really put a lot of heart, soul, and intelligence into the comic. I stopped reading it after he left, to be honest. Phil Noto's artwork was/is an extreme turn off to me.

Likewise Birds Of Prey. I was so in love with the comic when it was drawn by Butch Guice & especially Greg Land.

They're all over at Marvel. Jimenez is the current artist on Astonishing X-men. Guice is the new Captain America artist, which I'm personally thrilled, because I adored his art on "Ruse". Land unfortunately doesn't use the same style he used for Birds of Prey anymore. I can only hope Benes has pulled back on his art style. It's really a shame a series like BoP has to be saddled with such a cheesecake heavy artist like him. I understand the Noto turn-off. He's one of those I can handle for covers, but really hate his interiors.

I have no idea who's coming. That terrifies me.

Duh. I forgot. See, I'm so out of comics now that I've forgotten so much. When Cross-Gen went belly up, I lost a LOT of titles. That, and that I was spending way too much money on comics, I've stopped buying/reading, except for the occasional one. A lot of Cross-Gen artists went to Marvel because they claimed they were treated badly by DC before going to Cross-Gen.

As long as it is someone who respects WW, and especially the character, and doesn't draw her like some pumped up man, it should be all good. I loved Adam Hughes' covers years ago. Bolland too. I prefer WW to be drawn like a woman, not all T & A, with some respect, but femininity and not like some weight lifter.

I miss Crossgen. They were one of the few groups trying to experiment with different genres. Plus they had a concerted trade release program, so it was relatively easy to catch up on titles. DC & Marvel could learn a few things from that. They've bought into the hardcover/paperback model of regular books, so you may have to wait awhile sometimes.

Ironically most of Crossgen's titles were bought by Disney. They haven't done much with properties, although it was nice of Hyperion to collect the pirate El Cazador series. And guess who just merged with Marvel?

I don't really care for Adam Hughes' WW. His default version of her costume is cut way down on top and very high on the bottom. It's beyond T&A and into trashy for my tastes. I prefer the classic pretty version I grew up with, but she's seen as too old fashioned. *rolls eyes* Like you, I want someone who respects Diana and gets her character. All sides of her character, not just the warrior. She's a very unique character. Everyone wants to remake her or something.
