Renewed... bleh.

Variety is reporting that "Stargate: Atlantis" has been renewed for a fifth season. Part of me is annoyed, part of me is resigned and the more practical side isn't surprised. Besides the syndication issue, how many original shows does Sci Fi have left? BSG is ending soon and Flash Gordon may not make the grade, so they're left with Eureka. ( Read more... )

*sigh* Aren't they trying to start up that third Gateverse series with Daniel and Vala in the Ori galaxy or some dren like that? Not that I don't love Daniel and Vala. It's just that I'm kind of afraid for what'll happen to Vala, as I'm highly attached to her as a character.

Though, honestly, if they start showing Skiffy original movies on Friday nights too, I'm going to just roll my eyes and give up on them entirely. Instead of mostly.

They were supposed to be, but I haven't heard anything about it, since the initial hullabaloo. From the sounds of it, they won't be doing any work on it until after the direct-to-dvd movies are done. They're claiming it won't be a Daniel&Vala show, but who knows?

It's funny. I grumbled that Atlantis was never getting their whole attention and how much better it'd be if they didn't have to worry about SG1 too. And then this season... *heavy sighs*

It could be worse. It could be wrestling.

I thought they were done filming the direct-to-dvd movies? Or do you mean 'til they're done with postprod and everything there too? I'm sure they're claiming it won't be the Daniel & Vala show, but Claudia's their shiny new toy. But then again, maybe Claudia's got other work instead.

Honestly, I love first season best, in some ways, for their being cut off from Earth and not having any backup and becoming incredibly close with each other. My ideal SGA 'verse involves them being cut off from Earth after Return II and moving on from there with Elizabeth, Kate, and Carson. But that's all wishful thinking.

I'm not sure what they mean by done with, especially since they initially said they wanted it for early 2008. It's fairly late in 2007 already and we haven't heard anything about the production at all. Claudia would be the logical one, especially if they feel done with Daniel. Although I'd be equally afraid of them turning it into SG: Raven.

I agree. I much preferred the first season in that sense, because you saw how desperate they were, backed up against the proverbial wall with few friends or allies, trying to find any way to fight back. The closeness, the bonds, the pain when someone was lost... That's the Atlantis I liked. *shrugs* But the producers didn't want to do Voyager. I'm glad we had the new characters in some ways, but eh. I miss the old tension?

Oh, I'm kind of excited. I've been enjoying SGA more this season than last.
