Variety is reporting that "Stargate: Atlantis" has been renewed for a fifth season. Part of me is annoyed, part of me is resigned and the more practical side isn't surprised. Besides the syndication issue, how many original shows does Sci Fi have left? BSG is ending soon and Flash Gordon may not make the grade, so they're left with Eureka.

Though, honestly, if they start showing Skiffy original movies on Friday nights too, I'm going to just roll my eyes and give up on them entirely. Instead of mostly.

It's funny. I grumbled that Atlantis was never getting their whole attention and how much better it'd be if they didn't have to worry about SG1 too. And then this season... *heavy sighs*

Honestly, I love first season best, in some ways, for their being cut off from Earth and not having any backup and becoming incredibly close with each other. My ideal SGA 'verse involves them being cut off from Earth after Return II and moving on from there with Elizabeth, Kate, and Carson. But that's all wishful thinking.

I agree. I much preferred the first season in that sense, because you saw how desperate they were, backed up against the proverbial wall with few friends or allies, trying to find any way to fight back. The closeness, the bonds, the pain when someone was lost... That's the Atlantis I liked. *shrugs* But the producers didn't want to do Voyager. I'm glad we had the new characters in some ways, but eh. I miss the old tension?
