IMO Dark Angel tends to be a very uneven show-- a lot of plot points go missing or are suddenly resolved when the writers decide to do something else, especially as they transition between the first and second seasons. I suspect it will make sense if you skip ahead, particularly as the issues of the first season are pretty much wrapped up in the first few episodes of the second-- they choose a new Baddie and everything is pretty much laid out in those first few episodes of the season. Also, Jensen Ackles' character is great-- it made the show much easier for me, in the sense that a lot of time is devoted to how wonderful and perfect Jessica Alba is and Jensen's character is the comic relief who doesn't take anything seriously, so he, at least, is one element of the show that is not waxing rhapsodic about her greatness. He appears in the second season (and one episode of the first, as a different character). (I have a not-so-secret fondness for this show.)
