this is an old episode of the Hidden Brain podcast, but it came up on my newsfeed today and is just as relavent today as it was five years ago, unfortunately.  Ostensibly about glacial retreat in Alaska over the last thirty years, the discussion later delves into why people have such a hard time accepting and acting on climate change.

This is great - I hope everyone checks it out. I did like the second part more.

'Hidden Brain' is one of the things I miss from NPR. And I like that NPR usually provides transcripts.

I have often thought that 'a new religion' is what it will take. Interestingly, it seems that younger people are joining more orthodox religions these days. So, it would have to be put in conservative terms, maybe.

Another good way of communicating is through humour. That doesen't work as well these days, cuz of cancel culture and partisanship and everyone so convinced they are so right that they will even shoot down a joke.

I think there is another, but related, reason why people don't want to listen. Vested interest, it propaganda, and its allignment with this or that political party. Lazy people regard it as an authority and go about their own lives.
