For those of you reader-northerners that have never had them...

Think of a peanut. OK, forget everything you know about it. It is soft, vaguely slimy, and tasting of brine.

That is a boiled peanut.

That sounds almost as tasty as the boiled okra I tried while down there.
It has more gooey snot texture than gooey snot from bronchitis has.
It took every iota of "grandmother manners" to not spit them back onto the plate.

Fried okra... that was the bomb.
