Out of a class of 485 kids, I had maybe 10 friends in my grade, and only one that I still keep in touch with. Since the Facebook phenomenon took off I have found people that I sincerely looked for over the years. And I have also happily accepted friend requests from acquaintances that I got along with well, but was not super good friends with, in HS. It's been fun for me.
But I don't regret not paying $95 plus the cost of a new dress (mine was also semi-formal) to make polite conversation with many more people with whom I have nothing in common.

But I wear wear what I want to wear. Jesus people, it's Manning. The most formal events in the whole town is are the cotillions. At least those events raise the absurdity to an art form.
But much like highschool, I'm finding that most of the people I actually want to see will not be participating in the sponsored activities. So we shall see where the wind blows me during my visit.
I still generally detest facebook though. But I'm going to be the sort of old lady who throws rocks at the annoying children on her lawn. My favorite part of social networking is denying friend requests. Choice, it tastes like yum.
