private/personal persecution is really far more dangerous/effective.
A hot button ferinstance: I know someone who lost their job because a bosstype person saw and recognized their face in a 30 second film clip from an abortion protest/clinic defense news clip and disapproved of which side they were on.
I hear that. I think I lost my last well paying job for similar reasons.
When writing the above, I was actually thinking of a possible future where folks might start disappearing because they were too librul. It will be important for certain social circles to notice that phenomenon as quickly as possible since it will be quite likely the folks responsible for the disappearances (the government without warrants?) will be using social circle information gleaned from FB et al. to decide who to dissappear.
