Hm.

I am so tired of not having a smartphone. The weekend worked out perfectly well, but the ability to not have to go to a computer in order to , say, use a groupon would be nice, especially when the provider would have been willing to scan a smartphone but not a laptop. So no Lebanese Taverna. Although the evening was probably better as it ( Read more... )

but is it easy to take in and out of the holster, or is the holster attached to the phone attached to the clip?

Basically I only want to use a holster when my pockets are insufficient; hence being tempted by selki's android-thats-no-bigger-than-my-razr (but isn't a clamshell so can't get slipped into my waistband or dress strap like I do the razr)

No, no, it was a Palm Pre, not an Android.  But now I've upgraded/downsized to the newer faster smaller lighter HP Veer,  running the same WebOS (HP bought Palm).  Still no clamshell, but does have lanyard loop (and keyboard, of course).  It easily fits in my jeans CHANGE pocket.

It's bad enough just HAVING a cel phone (I managed to hold out until 2009). I think I'd rather die than walk around with one clipped to my belt. Blech.

I bought a G2x a couple of weeks ago. Loving it.

Possibly salient details for you:
Android
6.5cm x 12.5cm (too big for you?)
notification bar (drag down from top of main screen to see new emails, new IMs, etc.)
Google Maps!
Gmail app!
(other apps that iPhone probably also has!)
Takes video
Takes 3264x2448 pixel photographs (~8 megapixels)

Oh - has touch keyboard only. (T-Mobil has a model with a keyboard. I have a love-hate relationship with phone keyboards.)

There's a couple of iPhone cases that include a slide down clicky keyboard.

And there are a number of iPhone cases which include a belt clip. Some are cases with clip, so you have to remove the whole shebang from what it is attached to, and some are clip shells, that the phone snaps in and out of.

I continue to be absurdly happy with my iPhone.

Smartphone with a real keyboard that fits in girl pockets? The HP Veer, perhaps? As much as I love Mac OSX, I've never gotten the hang of iOS. Every time I use an iPhone or iPad (or my son's iPod Touch), I keep wanting it to be as intuitive and seamless as my Palm Pre, and it keeps failing miserably. But the just-announced iOS 5 borrows more than a few ideas from HP (formerly Palm) webOS (and a couple from Android), so maybe it'll seem less clunky to me in the future. But swipe to act upon a notification, rather than swipe to dismiss? Really, Apple? *facepalm*
