Food - learned. Um, and not-weekend, and gunstuff.

1) (just now) Italian sausage, especially from work cafe? Not worth the calories. I think I like vegetables far better than meat, and would have been happier with the lean cuisine in the freezer than with this load of fat and starch and overcooked sortagreen.

2) That said, the masala potato chips badmagic gave me were great, as was last night' dinner of ( Read more... )

that starts at 6:45 which is pretty early. There's a Fabrangan thing somewhere up 16th not so far from the JCC which would let me go visit Mom first; also there's yet another further into silver spring that goes all night...

The Florida law is whacking a mosquito with a bulldozer. The actual situation involved a pediatrician asking a mother if they had guns. The mother said it was none of the pediatrician's business. The ped finished the exam, and told the mom that she had 30 days to find a new doc.

Part of the reason that they went nuclear on this is the American Academy of Pediatrics's clearly stated policy in favor of banning guns:

From the article: "Supporters of the Florida bill, including the National Rifle Association, say they want to stop doctors from invading their privacy and are concerned the information may be used against them by insurance companies." So it sounds like safety vs. privacy.

The penalty (five years and a financial penalty up to $5 million) is nuts. Bulldozer indeed.

Also from the article: "A gun in the home is 43 times more likely to kill someone known to the family than it is to kill someone in self defense, according to a study by the American Academy of Pediatricians." Hmmmm. That figure sounds pretty much cribbed from Kellerman.

I have mixed feelings about what that pediatrician did. Part of me feels he shouldn't be forced to sell his care to someone. For anyone who subscribes to collectivized health care, however (I have problems with that, too), this law holds some water.

Early. I'm not cleared to begin full exercise yet, so I'm not staying. Just popping by on the way home.

Aw.
Sorry to hear that. (I tend to think of ballroom sampler as mostly slow walking and hence less exercise than one of my usual random excursions, but unless you've had that conversation better safe than sorry)

Y'all've already done the first sampler class so if you're cleared and so inclined there's no problem starting next week. Hell, even if you hadn't that's not unusual.

I'll make extra effort to leave work in time to hit MomApt and still get there closer to 7 than 7:30, then.

M's working most days til 7; don't know what time he'll be arriving.

Jealous of you seeing Cosby. I ended up passing on it this time. Did he do the long bit about teenagers kissing, and "Earl, my friend", or something new?

Florida's new law banning pediatricians from addressing gun safety, which oddly enough is backed by the NRA, who would usually be a proponent of educating people how not to accidentally kill people.

I am completely baffled by the NRA's support on this. Perhaps their motivations are to appeal to the guns are not for kids lobby? But still, I'm baffled.
