Why are you ranting about this?

because it pisses me off when Congress is just blindly exceeding their authority. They flat do NOT have the authority to do what they're doing. It is blatant in the Constitution that DC is NOT a state and ONLY states get voting representation.

I got that bit. By why are you ranting about it now as opposed to say, last Tuesday, or 7 Mondays from now? I apparently missed some news memo, or something.

Also, I don't think it matters one fig if they give DC representation. There are a lot of people living there now (that weren't when the constitution was made) that have no representation. Some democracy...

Well the timing has to do with the Senate actually approving the measure. And the Constitution is the Constitution... it is the supreme law of the land. Whether you're talking about freedom of speech, gun rights, or this, that doesn't change the fact that Congress does not have the authority to create something who's existence is forbidden by the Constitution. I am personally all for DC getting proper representation... but there are ONLY two ways that can legally happen: DC becomes a State, or a Constitutional Amendment is passed granting it.

One thing that irritates me about my party is that we've spent the last 8 years bitching and whining about President Bush ignoring the Constitution, but Congress and the Obama Administration can feel free to ignore it on this issue? I think not. And as rigidly Constructionist as the current USSC is, they will certainly think not as well.
