I was very excited to see that you all had posted the next chapter, and I was not disappointed. This story has it all - plot, character, humor, mountain music and very hot sex!

I'm glad the boys got to do it in a bed. Last time I was concerned for Sherlock laying on bits of broken coffin and bone.

Wouldn't surprise me - it was a very, very widely-used form of lube for most of the 20th century, to the point where a lot of 70s NY gay club nights were known as "Crisco Disco." Generally speaking, a well-stocked kitchen is full of things that will function well in a pinch.

The main reason things like vegetable shortening, lard, cooking oil, olive oil, butter, etc., get looked down on as lube now is because they don't work well with latex condoms, being oil-based. Pre-AIDS crisis, though, condom use was rare between men, because condoms were seen mostly as a method of birth control.
