What a mess. It sounds as bad as getting teaching credentials! The second option sounds like it might be easier to land a good job, but I hear you on wanting to get started over with your life already.

Yeah like I'm gonna be 30 at the earliest I can start studying so 36 before I can qualify as a solicitor...although I guess I'd be working as I study but idk might just be best to get it out the way asap.

The market is bloated here too and all that's really available is temp assignments :-/
Good luck. I hope we get back to the days when recruiters would call unsolicited soon

I'm not hopeful for those days to come (pessimist), esp with the legal aid reforms that are coming...I guess being an unemployed unqualified solicitor is better than being just unemployed.

Could be worse, could be wanting to be a barrister! There's like 2500 people graduating every year for about 500 pupillage spots...plus the people from the years before still looking...that shit is impossible.

hey long time, dude! Glad to hear you have a plan that makes you happy. I happen to know someone who did Japanese and went onto do the 1yr Law Conversion course and has then gone on to get himself a trainee contract with a magic circle law firm in the City. I guess whether you want to try the traditional route or not depends on what kind of lawyer you want to become at the end of it. Here is my friend's trials and tribulations, for your reference to see if the traditional route would suit you ( ... )
