Lost Byzantium

I dreamed last night about a friend, someone who drifted away a few years ago.  In my dreams, he'd come back, and we were trying to pick up the friendship where we'd left off.

It was always an odd one, in part because of distance and in part because of cultural differences.  We had some grand old times chatting, though, ( Read more... )

Someone told me once that everyone and everything is in our lives on a temporary basis. Sometimes the temporary is 5 minutes, sometimes it is 50 years. I've had so many friendships ebb and flow and some I never understood where the distance came in; but remembering the temporary rule, even though I was sad to let them go, that was tempered by the joy of having the time I did. It doesn't make the pain go away, but sometimes it helps.

My cat Argyle was old and very dignified and had a place just at the base of his tail if I scratched would cause him to furiously lick the air. I did it often. Heh.

That's a good way to think of it! Life itself is temporary, after all. Thanks!

Oh yes, the tail-root spot--a winner on both cats and dogs. Argyle is a terrific kitty name!

I'm not surprised it's still a little tender. Not knowing why people drift away is always hard. It's even harder when you see them and are reminded of what once was. You may have done nothing, he may have just wandered off, it happens.

I've never made a cat scratch the air like a dog! That's funny!

Yeah. It's life, that's all. I just wonder why it still bothers me sometimes.

It's a rare event, but well worth the effort! Cats look so silly that way.

Ming is totally right. That was a lesson that was hard for me to learn, not all friends are "inner circle" and very few stay around for very long. It's amazing how a near death experience can bring into sharp focus who and what are really important in your life. Loosing a friend is horrible. I have been blessed and had to walk away from one of my closest friends only to have her brought back into my life 2 years later. That was a harrowing experience I never want to have again.

Sounds like quite an experience! I have spent way too much of my life thinking about defunct relationships, it seems.

Another kick ass chapter. Now to see how to catch the killer. I have a feeling that Hannah will lead them a merry chase before it's all done. I think that she will find out that she has greatly underestimated Sara and the rest of the CSI's. The tender moments that Sara shared with Grissom after his release were tender and touched my heart. I love thursdays and look forward to your chapter updates ( ... )

My deep sympathies on your loss! That is always very hard indeed. I still miss my Moosie, and it's been eleven years.

Glad you liked the chapter! Hannah is no slouch, so this should get pretty interesting...
