That's wonderful.

No one is trying to eradicate me in massachusetts, but nonetheless I've definitely had a lot of those "oh my god what am I doing here I need to move to san francisco immediately" moments. Good for him for acting on it.

I read the book decades ago, but I'd forgotten about that abrupt escape to San Francisco. I was 14 in 1955, by the way - I wish I'd known about SF's gay culture back then, living 25 miles away and oblivious to the gay scene but mindful of my very lonely queerness.
