I'm with you on zombies being so over done nowadays, but I guess they play into our feeling as a culture as being walking dead and losing our identities.

I'm with you on the Buffy thing. Never saw the appeal, and I've tried. I also don't like Joss Whedon in general though (except I really want to see Cabin in the woods!)

I agree zombies are overdone lately, but I still generally like zombie movies, and The Walking Dead (which I think is the first TV show about them) in particular. But I think the best zombie stories are not so much about the undead as a look at what would happen to us when society inevitably collapsed. I think that's what makes them interesting, even if it is the same story over and over.

It seems fairly common nowadays for people to talk about a zombie apocalypse as if it's possible. I guess it could just be the collapse of society they're talking about, though, since zombies are magical and not real. There have always been people who like to stockpile guns and canned goods for the coming apocalypse; I like to think that these will be the first people to go. Then there's Glenn Beck who thinks having a big pile of gold will be useful if society collapses, although I'm not sure how. I guess you could hit zombies in the head with a gold brick.
