A Wizard Did It

This week's Simpsons episode had an interesting premise, but it gave me the feeling of something that I hadn't seen being parodied, with that whole Bus 23 thing. I did like it, though, especially the part with Bart trying to do something bad with the keys but ending up helping people instead. The Cletus joke was pretty gross, though. Homer's ( Read more... )

Yeah -- I thought Family Guy was indeed all over the place. The Jagger/Bowie video was just friggin' lazy, too. I'm getting a little sick of those jokes. First time with Conway Twitty was funny because it was really out of nowhere. Second time with CT was eh, because, well, Conway Twitty kinda sucks. And I'm a fan of country. And... yeah. MAKE WITH THE JOKES FAMILY GUY OR AT LEAST SOMETHING ANIMATED OR NEW.

I thought the Simpsons was one of the stronger ones, too.

Yeah, showing the entire video was a total cop-out, and probably cost them a lot of money at that. Are you really unable to fill an episode without lengthy bits that have nothing to do with the show, FG writers?

The bus on the Simpsons reminded me uncomfortably of the movie The Sweet Hereafter, but I kind of doubt that's what they were actually going for.

I just read a post about analytical vs critical fandom. Well, not exactly, but a similar concept: Here it was. Or maybe Oz and Ends linked to it too and you've already seen it and that's why you were thinking of it in the first place. Anyway, in that post I couldn't decide which side I was on, but in your way of looking at it I think I'm on your side. I think of it as being an apologist usually though.... I've never understood the "Star Wars Prequels are Evil" concept either-- actually, the originals were pretty cheesy too sometimes. (My concept of the midichlorians was less that it was a genetic thing as much as they were just a measurement of Force energy and it was more fluid than genetics, though a sensitivity could be genetic-- incidently). Actually some parts of the prequels I outright loved, like the second half of Revenge of the Sith when it was all tragic and Shakespearian. Then again, I also have a crush on Ewan McGregor, so I might be biased. But it's not just Star Wars, I know what you mean across the board, too...

No, I hadn't read that article before, but it definitely makes the same point I was trying to get at. Thanks for the link!

I don't really like the idea that the Force can be physically measured at all, since I thought it was supposed to all be in the mind. Still, your explanation probably works.
