Snowy Days and Sundays Always Get Me Down

Dec 28, 2010 00:38

I was hoping Walmart would be closed on Monday, due to the snow that was all over the roads and still falling when my shift began, but no such luck. They did end up closing four hours early, but the amount of driving was the same. It had only recently stopped snowing when I took bethje to work on Monday morning, but there was no chance her work would ( Read more... )

Back in 1993 I went into work at my part-time job at a video store even though I had a high fever, because a really bad snow storm was just hitting and I figured no one in their right mind would venture out just to rent a movie or game. It was the single busiest day in our history; when people wouldn't get out in four wheel drives anymore, they came by snowmobile and on foot.

I wonder if the "state of emergency" has to do with the supplies of salt available for clearing road in relation to the amount of snow fall. Maybe their supplies of road salt has been depleted faster than they anticipated?

Could be. Actually, the worst preparation for a snowstorm I've come across was in southern Virginia. Apparently they're not even sure what snow is down in Dixie.

Step up from state of emergency = disaster zone?

My mother in law is always insisting we call off work whenever there is snow on the road. Um... doesn't quite work that way.
