Wow, the DiC Link doesn't look like the real thing at all. Did you ever watch "Drawn Together" on Comedy Central? There was a character named Zander (Xander?) that was openly gay (at least after the first couple episodes) and was based on Link. He had a girlfriend that he was constantly rescuing based on Zelda, but she disappeared after a while.

No, I haven't watched Drawn Together. That does, however, kind of remind me of Video Game Confessions, in which a running gag is that Link will hit on pretty much anyone.

Meh, I think those 'ideas' about Link about just based on what he wears. Well, back in the day ALL guys dressed something like that. I think all fandoms need to lay off the leggings hating. It was fashionable then!
Actually, many 80's cartoons had continuity, much more than Zelda at least :3. I always remember thinking it was poorly done...I liked Mario better (and the live action parts) because I thought if you were going to have a story where nothing is ever ended, Mario fits better into that always searching quest than the epic adventure land of Link (which sort of needs an ending IMHO to feel worth while)

Yeah, I figure that Link's look is largely based on Robin Hood, and he wasn't gay (just merry {g}). I've never seen any indication that Link's outfit is at all out of place in Hyrule, with the possible exception of Tingle thinking he's a fairy.

I agree. Zelda doesn't translate too well to an episodic format, while with Mario, the games themselves are like that. Bowser always had the air of cartoon villain to him, while reducing an epic monster like Ganon to a guy with a weekly scheme kind of doesn't respect how he's presented in the games.

I never saw the D&D cartoon when I was little, but I saw the whole thing on DVD and was let down by the ending. That was a cartoon that did epicy right :3. I think the biggest series let down I even had was the ending of Mighty Max though :(
