That and/or choose a song that relies less on the gravelly voice.
"Fuel" shows up her voice something rotten.

I saw MTV Icon when it was broadcast over here about three years ago.
I thought Avril Lavigne's cover wasn't bad (her band certainly knew what they were doing), but agree that her voice isn't quite right for it...
