Do I need to fight my way through the 'original' first, in order to fully enjoy this one? :P

Coincidentally, I'm just in the middle of reading an essay by Ursula Le Guin ('All Happy Families', in The Wave in the Mind), in which she takes Tolstoy to task for the first sentence in Anna Karenina and *gasp* disagrees with him. I really enjoy her writing.
