Of monsters

He had always cultivated the image of the heartless monster. Even among his fellow vampires, was he known to be one of the most ruthless when it came to humans. He used them, and threw them away, always. His heart was made of stone.

And it was this image that he always wanted to be related to, be known as. Except for her. She should never see him that way and he knew that she didn’t. So when one day Elle had come home from a mission, broken, hurt and sobbing, his first instinct had been to take her into his arms, lock her into his bedroom and tend to her wounds, so that he could make sure that she’d be alright.

Only she wasn’t. Something had hurt her. Something had hurt her and wounded her. It was a cut on her forehead that he knew no human tool could inflict, that lead him to question her about it. It was the first and last time that she mentioned Sylar or the company.

She never did again.

And he never told her that he had hired vampires to hunt Sylar down and bring him to him. Josef also never told her that he drank his blood, killed him by ripping out his throat. There was no reason to tell her any of this. Because even if he knew that Elle would never think of him as a stone hearted cruel being, he couldn’t live with the thought that she could think of him as a monster. Just like Sylar.
