While I began the coffee machine ritual, Akiko was getting ready for work. The thing I like about this vignette is how domestic it is, contrasting with the creepy factor. Kissing nee-chan, too? Ew!

Not deliberately, she just turned out that way.
Also, there's a lot to Akiko that people haven't seen yet; it'll come up.

I'm loving this--especially, I like the idea of supernatural creatures being geographically restricted as an explanation for their diversity, and I absolutely loved the way you described the conflict between SFO and the journalists: the phrase "the papers hadn't pried off the silence yet" is absolutely wonderful.
