Colin and Margaret were there already; he was carefully examining the eyes of one of the corpses, and I could see her inside the plane, quietly talking to someone in the hunched posture of shock

Incidentally, I have seen the insides of a Q station recently. Most airport facilities would not be prepared to deal with an airplane load of people and keeping them isolated.

(Actually this kind of inspires the imagination to imagine people being picked off one by one while locked up in a hanger or whatever temporary place of quarantine that would be set up.)
