First, welcome to all our members! If you're excited about the challenges and hoping for more fic to read, make sure to spread word about the community.
Second- If you can make yourself available through email or private messages, we're looking for volunteer beta readers for challenge submissions. A beta's not required, but if you're willing to help out those who want assistance, just comment here with contact information and an idea of what kind of stories or pairings you're willing to beta for.
And just to be a little more clear on the rules:
-All challenge responses must be either posted or linked to here in a new entry. You can post it anywhere else you please, but make sure one of those posts is to this community so we know you answered a challenge!
-If you're posting your story here, use an LJ cut! Please, if you only follow one rule, make sure it's this one!
-When posting your story or link, please format the subject line just as you would at
veronicamarsfic:
Fic: Title (Pairing/Character) Rating
Above the LJ-cut or link, provide the following information:
Title
Author
Rating
Summary
Spoilers
Disclaimer
Author's Note (Optional)
Please include the community name and the challenge in either the summary or author's note. For example, "This fic was written for
vmfic_gameon's Back to School Challenge."
If you're responding to the Word Table challenge, please make sure to also include the word prompts you used as well.
Deadline for Round #1 is September 1st to the 30th. Please don't post your story until the first, and unless we're doing an extension, make sure it's posted by the 30th so it's award eligible.
Look for Round #2 challenges to be announced mid-September!
As far as content is concerned, all ratings/characters/pairings are permitted unless otherwise indicated in the challenge prompt. Fics can be any length, multi-chaptered or one-shots. If your response is a WIP, please make sure to at least post the first chapter by the deadline. We can't say how a WIP might fare against other stories in a poll, but you're welcome to go for it and you can continue to post updates here even after the deadline has passed. Just make sure to follow the posting guidelines each time.
Betas aren't required because I know they're not always available and there might be a lot of scheduling conflicts, and that can cause a lot of problems when we're working with deadlines. But if you're not using a beta, please make sure that you proof-read your story and at the very least use spellchecker. We all make mistakes, but taking a break from your story after finishing it and then reading over it again later with fresh eyes almost always helps with some of them. And there's nothing easier than clicking on spellcheck!
If you know you need help with things like grammar and punctuation, use a beta. If you decide to do it on your own and the story's a mess (obvious misspellings, terrible punctuation), it will be deleted.
And if you're a kind soul willing to beta, please remember to comment here!
Thanks!
