Game On- Round #1
Round #1 will be held from September 1st until September 30th, and fics must be submitted (or linked to) during that time in order to be considered for awards.
Because the show is off the air, fandom size seems to be dwindling by the day, and so we can't be sure how many authors will participate. Also, sometimes the community challenge just isn't something that appeals to you and makes you want to write. So in order to try and get different creative juices flowing, each round each month will offer FIVE different challenges to choose from. If you're game and you've got story ideas for more than one challenge, or maybe more than one story for a challenge, then you're welcome to submit as many stories as you please. The more fic, the merrier! But the hope is that at least one of the challenges will stand out to you and encourage you to start typing. If it still doesn't work and maybe people are feeling a little overwhelmed by too many options, or the writers just won't write...well, then we'll cross that bridge when/if we get there.
Also, until we can get an idea of how many fics we'll receive each round, we can't be sure which awards will be offered. If it's a particularly slow round and we only get a handful of stories, we may have only one award: Best Fic. On the other hand, if we have a particularly busy round and we get multiple submissions for each challenge, it's possible that we'll have a Best Fic award for the individual challenges and then those fics will face-off for Best Fic overall. But we'll see what happens. This community is a WIP, too.
On to the challenges. Like I said before, each month (which is each round) we'll have five challenges open, and you'll see the same pattern in the options. The first choice will always be a character fic with a given prompt, the second will be an episode redo or "what if?" scenario, the third a "monthly" theme exclusive to that, well, month, and the fourth option will always be a 25-word table, with a different table for each round.
Finally, the fifth option will be a general theme, similar to the ones we were used to in previous VM fic challenge communities, like loveathons's Snowed In challenge or vm_library's Anchor's Away challenge.
So there will be plenty of options each round, and hopefully that means there's something for everyone and people will get inspired! Now we'll get to the specific challenges for Round #1.

Challenge 1- Character Challenge
Character: Veronica
Prompt: A fic that explores Veronica's feelings (or her actions) the day she woke up in Shelly Pomroy's guest bedroom after being drugged. This fic can include other characters, but it must be Veronica-centric.
Challenge 2- Episode Challenge
Episode: 1.18- Weapons of Class Destruction
Prompt: What if- Ben wasn't an undercover agent and Veronica was right to be afraid?
Challenge 3- Monthly Theme Challenge
Month: September
Theme: Back to School! Hey, in real time, the gang would be heading to Hearst for the start of their senior year. Oh how time flies when you're canceled!
Write a fic that follows any character/pairing as they get ready for or begin the start of a new school year. Any school year you want- senior year at Hearst or Neptune high, or an AU where Veronica's starting as a freshman at Stanford. You can go back to the past and put little Logan Echolls in kindergarten or write a future fic where Wallace is seeing off Wallace Jr. the first day of first grade. It's your call, so have fun!
Challenge 4- Table Challenge
September's Word Table:
(I know some of these words may seem, uh, convenient, but I assure you I used this random word generator to make the table!)
Write a fic using at least five of the words in the table (but hey, why not try for all 25?!). Any characters/pairings/ratings are welcome.
And finally, in case you still haven't found a challenge that makes you want to write, number five:
Challenge 5- You Are Not The Father!
Unofficially sponsored by Maury Povich! Who's your daddy? Who knows? Play with paternity here. What if the test results showed that Keith wasn't Veronica's father? Hey, what if little Lilly wasn't Duncan's? What would Logan do if he found out that, like Trina, he too was adopted by Aaron? Or maybe someone hires Veronica to find proof they're not a dad? Endless possibilities, right?
So there you go, that's Round #1. We hope there's something for everyone here so you'll want to write or read. Get creative and do your best, and you can start linking to or submitting your entries here on September 1st. Make sure your submission is in by September 30th and we'll enter your story in the poll for the best.
