Ohhh. That's sad and wonderful! I can see Veronica bitterly wishing that her Mom was passed out drunk in a ditch somewhere for leaving her and her father and then feeling ashamed that she let herself feel that spiteful. I also loved that Veronica examined her feelings enough to realize that part of her was happy for her Mom and was glad she didn't have to worry about her and gave her Mom that comfort since I'm sure if Lianne is now sober, whenever she let herself think about it, which she rarely did, because it made her feel like crap, she felt guilty for not being there for Keith or Veronica and knowing they deserved better. It would help Lianne to know that Veronica was mature enough to be glad that she was happy now, rather than just hating her, which is probably what Lianne feared from Veronica.

Thank you so much for your thoughtful response! I figured that whatever happens, Lianne won't be coming back and settling in with the Mars family ever again. Her only options are falling deeper and deeper into alcoholism until she kills herself, or cleaning up and moving on, most likely with other people. Either way would be hard for Veronica, but I'm sure she would know deep down that this is the lesser of two evils, no matter how much it hurts. I think the worst part in this scenario is that Lianne probably hasn't included Veronica at all in her transformation.

That was amazing. The concept is perfect, and the symmetrical way you wrote it is wonderful, too. It's going in my memories.

This was really, really good. You completely captured the pain of this relationship. Lianne bursting out a second after Veronica drives away - ugh, it makes me ache. She loves Veronica, but can't *quite* get her ass in gear enough to be a real mother to her. And then the fact that she managed to do it for some other family? And the fact that Veronica had to watch it? GOD that was good.

Thank you! Yes, it's hard, how much Lianne has screwed up with parenting Veronica. I don't think she could ever really make amends.

That was so good. I feel bad for Veronica having to see that her mother was able to sober up for another family but not for her. I was kind of hoing she would go over and interrupt their dinner but I really liked the way it went. Great story.

Thank you! I think things would have been a lot messier if she'd confronted Lianne with the whole family present, but I was glad I managed to squeeze in a little meeting, letting Lianne know that she knew.
