right, so there was this little (literally :)) Franz show on Wednesday and I took a bunch of pictures? I spent a lot longer fixing these up than I normally do, and I hope it shows (er, I hope it doesn't show, but I hope they look better than normal. or something).

thank you! it's been a while since I shot a show and was happy with it, but this turned out for the best. but then, I've never been to one of their shows and *not* been happy with the pictures. 'nother reason they're great. :)

I love Dayna's comment about Nick = Jack White and Jack White = Liberace. ♥

i forgot to add this-- is it okay for some constructive criticism? i think you mentioned 1/50. girl that's so slow! especially with strumming hands. if you're shooting RAW with ISO 1600, it won't be too dark for 1/80 especially if you run the pics thru photoshop. for example, the nicky dorky smile shot was really dark with the jpeg, but i twiddled the RAW to its underexposed, but much more acceptable flickr state.

but then again, the 1/50 got you that amazing first photo! great exposure! but the hit/miss of slower shutter is too disconcerting for me... what lens were you using? did your nervousness from that night throw you off too much?

lastly, i personally get bored with myself with the mouth-at-mike pictures (tho sometimes that's the easiest solid shot to make). personal style, i guess. but i always watch out for the microphone obstructing face/head photos.

yay! i hope i wasnt too imposing on this comment. then again, i do like PHOTOGEEKING it out to the max.

I am all about the constructive criticism. whenever I try to constructively criticize myself, I just wind up whiny and emo.

these were almost all 1/50, f/2.8 at 1250 -- I was able to bump up to 1/80 at some point, but mostly not. I'm pretty gunshy these days with exposure because with my D70, shots that looked fine on the LCD would be terribly underexposed when I looked at them at home. I turned down the LCD brightness on the D80, and I think that helped a lot. a lot of this is me still getting used to a DSLR and RAW (rather than my old camera, which was a Sony Mavica -- nice camera, but still essentially a point-and-shoot).

what lens were you using?

it was a 17-35mm f/2.8 on AF most of the time. I loved shooting it, I just wish I could afford lenses that cost more than my rent. :-p

did your nervousness from that night throw you ( ... )
