Karal laughed and rubbed his temple. "I am completely human. No hooves, no tail, see?" He held up his hands and wiggled his fingers. "I have hands again."
"All good things," Dean said coming in. "See this is the kind of thing that happens when you name your horse after your brother. Fate has a sense of humour."
"Not bad," Dean said in Karsite as he took the proffered seat. "Haven't had anyone really to practice the speaking with since someone was all horsified," -- the last word came out in English -- "but the reading's pretty much figured out."
Karal looked very impressed. "Dean, that is excellent," he replied, speaking Karsite. "Your pronunciation is exactly right. If it wasn't for the accent, you could pass for a native speaker!"
It was so good to be able to talk in Karsite again. "It is an amazing spell. The Eastern Empire has magics none in the Alliance have ever heard of. Given how many countries it's absorbed, a spell to learn languages would be a necessity."
"They could probably use something like it at the United Nations too," Dean said. "Though they'd probably be pissed they couldn't pretend not to understand the other guy any more."
"You sneaky priest you," Dean teased. "So that book you gave me that was an overview of Vkandis and the Kin in English... that's okay to give to Sammy to read, right?"
"Sammy thinks he might be interested, y'know, like I was," Dean explained. "But he wants to make sure it's okay with both you and me that he's interested." He rolled his eyes. "Apparently he thinks my sharing this with him is some sort of huge sacrifice on my part."
