My husbands calls this his theory of enforced equality. It's just not fair for someone to have too many perceived positive traits (and we Americans especially have made a fetish of fairness, which is sometimes good, sometimes bad). So if someone is beautiful they cannot be smart; if smart they cannot be athletic; if athletic, they cannot be beautiful. And so on, round and round we go.

I have two sisters and we were neatly placed in our categories very early on; I was smart, Middle sister was the athlete, Little sis was beautiful. No overlap plz, it messes up the neat boxes we've put you in.
