Making a lot of noise, but not a lot of sense.

I feel like I haven't really updated in a while, other than twitter posts and the occasional 'hey, look at this' link. I'm doing good, just focused elsewhere, I guess. I've been playing a lot of tennis, although our league wrapped up on Saturday for the winter season. I had my best game so far, so that was awesome. I saw My Bloody Valentine ( Read more... )

No, that's what I'm saying. The detainees there are suspected terrorists, that have been held for years without trial, most without being formally charged from what I understand. So if we close that base, then they have to decide what the process is for bringing people to trial for terrorism. They will most likely have to bring them onto American soil, and put into place some laws that deal with how to bring charges against people who are not American, but have conspired to commit acts of terror against Americans.

Many Americans believe that as well, which is why that base is closing - that the way these people have been detained is not right. But the problem then lies in determining what is right. How long can they be held without bringing charges, what rights do they have, where should they be held once charged, what are the punishments if found guilty (ie what's the difference in time served for someone who conspired or abetted with a terrorist, vs someone who committed a terrorist act), if imprisoned where and how should they be imprisoned, because putting them into general population in a prison would probably be pretty cruel and unusual punishment.
