Official Club Vivid Song Grab Announcement!!

Feb 14, 2006 12:12

To keep the comments list small and manageable for people to read over when signing up, let me ask that you avoid comments that aren't specifically for claiming. I'm going delete any other comments. Feel free to e-mail me at luminosity dot deville at gmail dot com with any questions. Please put "Club Vivid" in the subject window.

Here at last is the Club Vivid Challenge list. A quick explanation for those new to VividCon: every year at the con, we have a dance vid party, where we show vids rather than just playing music. It's a great time, and it's an excuse to make dance vids that don't necessarily have a ton of deep meaning or narrative (not that we mind those!) but are just plain fun.

This year, we're running a special challenge for vids made specifically for Club Vivid. After soliciting suggestions from you all, we've picked out some of the most danceable songs from those submitted, and we're asking vidders to claim a song and make us a vid. These vids will be due April 21 -- more instructions on uploading will be posted here and at the VividCon website closer to that due date.

These vids will be shown at the con in Club Vivid, and will be eligible for inclusion on the con dvd, space permitting. You do not need to be a member of the con to submit vids to Club Vivid. Any genre of vid is welcome, any fandom is welcome.

How It Works:
  • For simplicity, assignments are first-come, first-served.
  • Look through the cut-tagged list below. Find a song you like. Check the comments to make sure it hasn't already been claimed.
  • Post a comment saying "I claim song FOO" and include your e-mail address. Feel free to write it "I am whee at foo dot com" to protect against spammers and such, but please do include it. You do not need to have a livejournal account to post.
  • Make sure that your comment has appeared below, and double-check that no one before you has claimed the song. If there is a conflict, whichever comment appears first in the livejournal listing wins.
  • Make your vid to the song. The vid should be good enough quality to blow up to full-screen. Something like RealPlayer is not good enough -- something like DivX or a large WMV10 file is okay -- elementary MPEG-2 files (m2v and wav) are ideal.
  • Get the vid done by April 21st, 2006, and upload it (or mail it to us on a disk). More detailed instructions will be forthcoming. The deadline is firm -- please do not claim a song if you can't make the vid by that time. We will be burning the show very shortly after that date, so we cannot give extensions.
  • We would like to premiere these vids at the con. That is, we ask that you do not release the vid on the web or on a collection before the con (August 11-13 this year). After the con, you are of course welcome to do anything you like with it.
FAQ:

  • Can I claim more than one song?
For now, please only claim one. If there are songs still unclaimed by this Friday (February 17), feel free to claim a second and even a third at that time, if you are confident you can get those vids done and uploaded by April 21. If you have a pre-claimed song (ie, one that you claimed during the suggestion period and that is listed below), please wait until Friday to grab another song.
  • Why so few songs?
We only have time to show about 50 vids at Club Vivid, but there are a lot of songs here! We don't want to risk accidentally getting more vids than we can show, and we also want time to show some older vids and repeats from previous years. However, we want you to have a lot to choose from.
  • Where can I hear these songs?
One good place to hear samples is Amazon, which has samples in WMV and Real format of nearly everything. Try Google to find out what album a song is on.
  • Why isn't the song I suggested/claimed listed?
We received nearly 220 suggested songs, so we trimmed aggressively. Keep in mind that our criteria here was *solely* whether we think a song is really danceable and helped give us a nice mix of dance genres -- not at all whether we thought a song was going to make a great vid or not. If you claimed a song during the suggestion period, and it isn't listed here, that does not mean we don't want to see it. Please feel free to make the vid to submit to Premieres, or one of the themed shows -- those deadlines will be later on.

  • ETA:I missed the song suggestions and I have the best vid idea ever?! Can I still vid it?
We want good dancey vids so if you can email us at luminosity dot deville at gmail dot com with the song, artist and fandom that you want to do, we'll let you know if there's room for it.

We made our choices with the names of the suggesters/vidders stripped off, so it was completely non-personal. It is of course subjective, but you behold before you our best efforts!
