Thanks for the tip on the film. Looks like it's a limited release at the moment, but I'll make sure to see it when it comes my way.

I'm very excited to be heading to India. I'll be looking at my month there as a monasticism or retreat of sorts. I'll be trying to keep up with my blogs and journals while there so if you are interested keep an eye out for that.

I've actually been meaning to write about your recent trip to Peru. I'm considering a trip there next year to study shamanism. Did you do any work of this type while you were there? If you'd rather take this discussion off line my email is renegade dot bodywork at gmail dot com.

Wow. Your practice has really advanced in a short amount of time. I appreciate your discipline. May you find what you seek in India.

I've got to say that with yoga I've been able to focus and embrace the discipline required more so than I have with any other path. This has led me to the idea of a kind of "predestination" or a genetic predisposition to the work. I've worked at many a system and this one just resonates more than any other. That is a large factor behind my trip to India. As always, thanks for your support from afar.

BTW, I'm happy to be taking my 3* right before I leave for India. Good timing! :)

what do you mean by "My lower back is changing in preparation for the rest of the series" ?

This particular asana is the 38th of 50 asana in the first series of Ashtanga yoga. In Ashtanga there's a sequence that is practiced everyday in the exact same order. Each asana prepares the body for the next asana in the series. Supta Kurmasana, pictured in my post, releases the lower back as it opens up the hips. The action of bringing the feet behind the back really straightens out the spine as the muscles in the lower back pull down as the legs go up. It is VERY dynamic. Once I find comfort in this asana I will be able to move on to the next which is even more pretzel like. :)

There is a great deal more to this, but I hope that answers your question a bit.

BTW, I want to send you all the best, I know you're kind of jacked up at the moment. I'm going to be in Toronto on November 18th getting my Visa for India. My schedule will be tight but if you would like to work together on something just let me know. I also want to check out the Bodyworks exhibit. :)

Take care of yourself, ~G

very interesting. i've done exercises to try and release the back with limited success. one day i hope my body is in good enough shape that i can start doing yoga. right now... nothing :\

i think i remember you mentioning previously that you'd be in toronto. don't worry about working on anything, i'm not in shape to even start anything right now, but i'm going to a naturopath to try and help myself. i would meet up with you if you have free time, but if not, really - don't worry about it ;)

but do tell me your plans for while you are in toronto? what else are you going to do? and what is the bodyworks exhibit you are going to?

I am not sure of what our schedule will be. Actually, we have to verify that we, as americans, can get our Indian Visas in Toronto. If we do come to town it will be on the 18th of November. I'll let you know if we have time for coffee or something. It would be great to meet a friend I've made through LJ in the flesh. I have yet to do that.

The exhibition we are interested in going to is Bodyworlds. Here's the link:

I have heard rave reviews of it.

All the best to you,
~Gregg
