It was an otherwise quiet and pleasant evening for the family. A fire was crackling cheerfully in the hearth, and Jing and Cassis were sitting on the couch together. The latter was leaning back into Jing's embrace while reading a book, playfully swatting her husband's hands away when Jing teasingly played with her long blonde hair

Vita smiled as she crossed the grass towards the front door. The power inside the house had surged once they had detected her appearance. There was certainly no doubt that they were Bonded, the closest thing she would ever have to children.

But now was not the time for sentimentality.

"Knock knock~" she said, touching the wooden frame of the door. Like everything in this world, it trembled and reacted to her touch.
