Great pic - and I'd use the word intersting instead of odd - must be quite a bit of fun most of the time =)

Well, sometimes it is odd... I guess interesting would be a better term, but I've just gotten used to it so it's normal for me now *lol*

I wish I'd gotten a picture of the guys going down the road in the dessert-outfitted Humvees; they have a guy sticking out of the roof with a big automatic riffle mounted to the roof of the vehicle, and the last one in the convoy is facing backwards.

A bunch of the units based throughout the US come here to train before they get deployed (mainly to Iraq and Afghanistan) so all summer we're crawling with soldiers. At least this summer they got the message and stopped doing marches through housing! (Last summer they would go on marches/runs through housing singing songs... really loudly... at 5 AM... NOT easy to sleep through...) Though it was funny the one time I was taking the dogs for a walk and about a hundred of them came by (two-by-two) and said things like "oh, look at the doggies!" "So well behaved" (they don't pull) "Can I pet them?" *lol* The guy in charge wasn't amused by the last one :D

Igo to school just down the street from a military base here in France, the first time I saw a military convey I was a little freaked. Here they don't bother to put canvas coverings on the trucks, so one can see each and everyone of the hundreds of extremely muscular, heavily armed soldiers as they slowly roll by the school. The training runs are a little different as well, they take place in the local miniforest surrounding the castle. Nothing is more scary than your leasurely, relaxing walk in the park being interupted by dozens of men marching/running perfectly insync to the redfaced screams of their commanding officer. I think though, the thing that unnerves me the most about the French military is that there is no girls. I read in the military propoganda plastered everywhere that females acount for nearly 20% of their military, but I have yet to see any evidence of that anywhere... Then there is also the jets that buzz the rural areas for night-time training. Unforutunely my village is, you guessed it, in the rural areas !I have ( ... )

A lot of females in military (of many different nationalities) are in support related field. I.E. they work in records, medicine, supplies, etc. So there may be 20% females, but not 20% running around playing solider.

Also, this is actually the first time I've ever lived on a military base, normally I'm just near them. And it's not too bad... okay, at first it was... after a year you begin to ignore it. Even the dogs don't care anymore :) I'm a sound sleeper, so I guess that helps!

And homonyms are not my friends! They have to go in be confusing! *lol*
